Dear Visitors,

Our Before Sleep Program, one of the internet services of Gulberenk Values Education Association, continues to be broadcasted live every evening at the same time.  The topic of tonight’s episode was “The Benefits of Illnesses”. We were surprised to hear! What good could something come up with trouble? ?

We thought deeply, and thought and found! It turns out that a disease has many benefits. The first of these is that people realize their weakness and say “Oh Allah!”. If a person were always healthy, he could be unaware of his strength and fall into heedlessness. When he gets sick from time to time, he remembers who the real power belongs to, he is protected from nafs and arrogance. Another benefit of the disease was that it increased our prayers and our brothers and sisters pray for us. Moreover, the prayer of the afflicted person would be more sincere and bring him or her closer to Allah.

Another benefit was that it offered people who forget to rest, the opportunity to go to bed and relax. When the body is tired more than necessary, it closes itself by getting sick and thus tries to regain the strength it needs. Mankind is forgetfull and disease is also necessary for us to remember the value of health. If we never got sick, we could become incapable of knowing the fate and value of health. The illness was like a guest on duty trying to teach us a lesson. Like sorrow and joy, it comes and go.

Despite all its wisdom and benefits, illness was still undesirable. We had to try to protect the trust given to us by our Lord, to eat healthy food, to get enough sleep, to take the necessary precautions to avoid cold and sickness. To welcome it well with patience, consent and contemplation, even though we are tested with a disease as we do our best; it was best to send it off with maturity and gratitude.

We should be grateful for adversity and illness, and gratitude for joys and well-being. Some of Allah’s servants regard everything that comes from Him as grace and give thanks. We, too, should wish to have as good a belief one day as they do.

In short, we understood that we had to ask for maturity where we can meet grief and illness with a smile, just as we welcome joy and grace with a smile.

As you can see, as every evening, we had a great Before Sleep program, again full of contemplation and gratitude. As we took our ablution and went to our beds, we once again felt that everything was for us and as we realized this, our hearts were filled with peace.
