Gulberenk Educational Children’s Programs, arranged by Gulberenk Values Education Association, continue to take place in Izmir on the last Sunday of each month!
Our August program was entitled “The Tailed Kite” and we said “One should not be a tail to every kite”.

It is well-known that the kite is a sort of flying toy, which is often covered with colored paper and composed of a polygonal body with a fancy tail attached to it. Kites of various colors and shapes can be made easily at home with good quality materials. Flying a kite has been a way of amusement both for kids and for the ones who wish to stay a kid.

So the story then goes as follows: to fly, the tail must hold on to the kite. Taking the tail and the kite as a metaphor, one should not become a tail to every kite! One should be careful in choosing the kite to fly with, otherwise you could crash along with it! So the truth is, “the tail always follows the kite”. Therefore, we then said:

Wherever the locomotive travels ‘Chug Chug’, the wagons follow!
Wherever the mother duck goes ‘Quack Quack’, the baby ducks follow!
Wherever the commander goes ‘Bam Bam Bam’ the soldiers follow!
The whole creation is in a form of dependence! To fly, the tail needs a kite, the kite needs an expert, the expert needs the wind, and the wind needs the mountains, the plains… And all this needs Allah’s command “Be!”. Thus, the one to fly the kite should be faithful and pious.
Thereupon, Allah in the Quran warns us as follows:
“O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with those who are true.” (Surah At- Taubah- 119)
The faithful and pious are the ones who live according to Allah’s will and his beloved Prophet’s sunnah. As Mawlana Jalaluddin (may God sanctify his holy spirit) expresses: “The nightingale takes you to the rose, while the crow takes you to the dump”. Thereby we said:
“Let us cling to Allah’s rope! Let us cling to our beloved Prophet’s sunnah!”
