Dear Distinguished Members,

The Gulberenk Educational Children’s Programs, sort of a service by Gulberenk Values Education Association, continue to be staged in an enthusiastic atmosphere in Izmir. In our May program entitled, “Squash Blossom” we asked ourselves, “Which Flower on The Branch Are You?”.

Each flower is mainly known for its unique color, smell and structure. We could recognize squash blossom and flower by realizing the squash on it. Nobody would expect to pick pears from an eggplant plant. On the branch of a oleander one would never see the blossoming of a rose. There would not grow any apple on the pine branch. No beans would ever grow on the vineyard. Likewise these simple samples, on the branch of righteousness evil will not grow, and neither on the branch of goodness, on these branches falsehood will not blossom. Moreover, on the branch of justtice superstition will not exist, nor will one see the fruit of suspicion on the branch of faith.

When we learned all these tips, we asked ourselves over and over again: Which flower on the branch am I? Are you pale or fresh? Did you keep your color, your smell, your taste? Which fruit are you in a yard? Are you rotten or fresh? Have you been able to preserve your color, taste, essence? What is your condition now?

To us, our Gulberenk Children are the flowers of the Islamic branch. Gulberenk Children are the fruit of the faith bond. Thereby, every Gulberenk boy and girl should account for him/herself and think: What do I remind those who look at me? While the squash blossom reminds everyone of the squash itself, what do I remind? Can I become a healthy Islamic flower? What about my outfit, my speeches, my respect for elders, my compassion for my little ones? Do I practise my prayers beautifully? Can I fast in a proper way?

Not only just the squash itself, even the squash blossom has a lot of benefits. What about me? Can I be useful to humanbeings, animals, stones, or even soil (earth)? Squash was one of the favorite vegetables of our beloved Prophet Muhammad Mustafa (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). Can I love the squash because he loved it?

As you will realize, as in every Gulberenk program, we have contemplated through this program too. We also smiled a lot. We as the Gulberenk Children, when we grow up we would become Gulberenk Bees and will lend hand to various healing works like honey bzzzzzz. Until that time, let us keep watching, thinking, catching up with a myriad programs!

Well, this month I said too much, enough for now! 🙂
