Dear Distinguished Visitors,

Gulberenk Educational Children Programs continue to take place regularly. In our “Salt in the Food” program, which took the stage in November, we all said, “So Many Small Things, No Disdain!”. Turned out there were so many small things and it turned out that those little things were of great importance.

If it was not for the knots, a vest would not come out. If it was not for the drops a sea would not be created. No bricks would mean no walls, no rice would mean no rice pilaf. No letters would mean no words, no commas would mean no meanings, no seeds would mean no trees, no needle then would mean no caftans. How can one disdain all these?

How can this be despised? If it was not for the gram, a pound would not be a pound. If it was not for an inch, one meter would not exist. If there was no one lira, a thousand liras would not come out. Yes, all these are very small; but still if there were no pages no book would be printed and if there were no books no libraries would be established.

Some tiny things might have few harmful effect on us, like bacteria, viruses and thorns… they can hurt, wound and even make us sick…However, some very things things can have a lot of benefits. If it was not fort he tiny little needle, huge curtains would not be made. If it were not for the keys, we could not enter our houses an deven could not start the cars we drive. Just consider, if we did not have our tiny nails, teeth, nostrils, what would happen?

Sometimes things that might seem trivial, in fact may have huge effect on us. For instance, a sulky face can be enough to demoralize others. Furthermore, a slight smile could do vice versa and make others feel happy and motivated. Winning or/and losing even depend on very little reasons. For example, the ones who even have a bit of arrogance in their hearts, would not be able to go to heaven. To repent after a sin and to thank Allah after doing a good deed, all these appear tiny acts but they are not.

After contemplating about all of these aspects, we sang together a beautiful song of which the chorus remained in our tongue like the taste of honey:

“Snow flake, pomegranate seed, water drop, grain of sand! Allah, who created the smallest and the greatest, is our only One! There is no such thing as thing! No disdain! Be like salt in food, Amen, Oh you beautiful pearl!”

We knew, immediately, who the pearl was in the song. Each of the Gulberenk Child was a small pearl. Our sisters, who gave us the program as a gift, wished us to add flavor and beauty to the world, just as salt adds flavor to food. In fact, each Gulberenk Program was like a de facto prayer for a more peaceful world. On the first Saturday- Sunday of every month in Istanbul and on the last Sunday of every month, we continue to call this prayer in Izmir, Zonguldak, Adana and Kutahya! Thank Allah!
